I truly believe that a large portion of psychiatric illnesses may be helped by dietary changes. I have spent more than a decade researching the connection between the gut and the brain and have realized the intricate pathways affected by what we consume. Furthermore, the standard american diet is potentially a beacon for psychiatric disease as it destroys the body through inflammation. This inflammation, in conjunction with genetics, is what manifests as depression, anxiety, OCD, etc. I continually update myself with the latest and most trustworthy research to give my clients the best healthcare possible.

Background
I am originally from Wisconsin but migrated to Phoenix, Arizona in the late 90′s. There I finished my undergraduate degree in Psychology with a focus in substance use disorders. It was during this time that my eldest daughter began to experience terrible migraines, she was six at the time. With few options other than migraine medication we were at a loss. I knew there had to be more to the story than just treating the symptom. I spent numerous hours in the basement of the local medical school digging through journal articles. Finally, I came across an article that mentioned celiac and migraines and it just resonated. My daughter has been gluten and migraine free for 10 years.
It was at this point that I realized that food was such an important part of health. I decided to take my education to the next level and pursued entrance to the top nursing school in the nation. That is what brought me out to the pacific northwest. We moved our entire family to Seattle where I attended the University of Washington School of Nursing. I received my RN and then my Masters in Nursing gaining acceptance to Sigma Theta Tau( National Nursing Honors Society). I am a board certified family psychiatric nurse practitioner and am licensed in the state of Washington with prescriptive authority.
